GS – the union of workers in the forestry, woodworking and graphic industries was established in June 2009 through the merger of the former Graphic Workers’ Union and the Forest and Wood Workers’ Union. The Municipal Workers Union was founded in 1910 and organises those working within the municipalities and county councils. Here you find employees within care and treatment, for example assistant nurses and childminders, as well as those caring for parks and streets, public baths and sports grounds, public purification and sewerage plants. The Municipal Workers´ Union is the biggest union within the LO and the majority of the members are women.

IF Metall is the second biggest LO national union and is a merger in 2006 between the Swedish Industrial Workers and the Swedish Metalworkers Union.
