In the wake of the financial crisis, the difference between how blue-collar workers and white-collar workers spend their holidays is now bigger than it has been for a very long time. Almost every third blue-collar worker (32 per cent) has neither gone away on holiday nor has access to a holiday cottage. Among white-collar workers, the corresponding figure is 15 per cent. These facts are presented in the LO report on Swedes’ holiday habits 2010.

Important message from the EU Commission 2011/04/27

Wanja Lundby-Wedin comments on the action plan for the internal market 2012 presented by the EU Commission on 13 April. It is satisfying that the European Commission consents to the demands of the European trade union movement by announcing that it will present a regulation aimed at improving the balance between EU economic freedoms and fundamental trade union rights. LO has been engaged in this issue since long. In LO’s view, the current proposal is an important step in order to rectify the problems created by the Laval judgement.
