The LO Sweden Congress calls for unemployment insurance to be improved and strengthened. Unemployment insurance benefit is to be 80 per cent of wages and the ceiling for benefit is to be raised and adjusted upwards in accordance with wage increases. Qualifying days for involuntary unemployment, as well as qualifying days in the case of bankruptcy are to be removed.

The LO Sweden Congress also carried a motion that LO Sweden is to clarify that unemployment insurance funds are not benefits but insurance. The “unemployment contribution” must be abolished, the insurance is to be jointly financed and the fee paid by individuals must be set low enough for everyone to be included. LO Sweden also calls for a change in the regulations applicable to unemployment insurance funds to allow exemption from fees while studying.
