Employers who exploit migrant workers must be prosecuted

Employment conditions LO is to work to ensure that employers who use and exploit workers from third countries must be prosecuted and sentenced for these crimes.

Employers who have employed workers from third countries must be obliged to give the employee a new employment offer during ongoing employment. In addition, the Swedish Migration Agency should be given a clear remit to oversee and control the companies approved to employ migrant workers.

LO is positive to labour immigration but considers that the current system should be radically overhauled. Since deregulation in 2008 work permits granted have increased among LO occupations, in particular occupations that do not require special education or work experience. Nor have the new rules led to any increase in shortage occupations, which was the purpose. In addition, the reform has led to cheating, abuse and exploitation.
