Congress of LO Sweden
Congress is the highest decision-making body of LO Sweden. It assembles every four years and it decides on the main policies and activities to be pursued in the coming four years.
At the digital Congress on June 15, a new LO leadership was elected and a limited number of issues was addressed. Thereafter the Congress was adjourned to be resumed in 2021.
In addition to the election of a new leadership, the digital Congress in June also dealt with the activity report, financial report and amendments to the constitution.
A number of guest speakers addressed the Congress, inter alia Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the ITUC, Lee Cheuk Yan, General Secretary of HKCTU, and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.
The Congress adopted a statement of solidarity regarding the prosecution of Lee Cheuk Yan, General Secretary of HKCTU.
At the Congress, it was decided to open the motion process and give the affiliates the right to submit motions to the resumed Congress next year. In this way, new issues can be raised at the resumed Congress.
In 2021, there will be a new opportunity to get together and hold an ordinary Congress. For LO this is important, in order to find a solid basis to build the future work on. A new start with an occasion to discuss the top priority issues of LO affiliates’ members in all sectors. The present crisis has shown that there is an obvious need for improved security in the labour market and as regards society as a whole.
The postponed Congress (in 2021) will discuss the following agenda items, inter alia:
- International issues
- Trade union political cooperation
- Labour market issues
